A Healthy Approach to Eating on Thanksgiving: Pig OUT!
Thanksgiving day is tomorrow, and I’d like to share a few points that will help you stay on track if you are dieting, or simply eat a little healthier otherwise.
EAT THE PIE! Okay, it’s Thanksgiving, apply the 80/20 rule and splurge some, just don’t eat the whole thing.
Eat As Much Raw Foods as you can. Vegetable trays and cooked veggies are great- try to fill your plate up with at least 50% of these. This will help your digestive system function well, and help regulate your blood sugar (which will decrease Holiday fat storage), and help give you a feeling of fullness.
Eat Less Sweats, Less Salt, and More Meats. This will help keep you feeling fuller longer- the meats will have higher protein and good fat content causing you to feel fuller longer and eat less over the course of the day
Eat Slowly. This will help you feel fuller over time, causing you to want to eat less.
Eat Your Calories. You will pack on fat over Thanksgiving by drinking quicker than if you have several glasses of non-water beverage. Have one or two drinks outside of water, but try to drink mostly water.
LAUGH A LOT! This will actually burn some calories and aid in digestion.
Get a little exercise. Throw football with your kids, shoot basketball with your siblings, go for a walk. Don’t kill yourself, its Thanksgiving, but 15-20 minutes of movement will go a long way.
And Afterwards: Throw out the Carbs, Give away the Sweets, and Keep the Meats The meats will help you eat overall less by feeling fuller. The carbs and sweets will increase cravings and hunger, all the while signaling your body to store fat and slow down your metabolism.
