James,
You do make that if the sales a retail. Correct. I am going to do another string of posts that goes into more detail in the future. Still, the bonus structure is very lopsided.

I don't understand your last point: <em>"Also, point wise, there would have no be no one making a bonus between them and someone close to the founder of the entire corporation."</em>

Do you mean that no one makes a bonus upline? Or just the person at the top of the structure? 28% gets paid out in commissions from the Stair-Step side up through Ruby bonuses- not counting any leadership bonuses. So if you are at 3%, someone else is getting paid 25%. IMHO that is not equitable or fair.

Great article Jon! I actually figured some of this was going on...but 20% gain in water weight is massive...and unsustainable. Thanks for all the great information & I'm looking forward to checking back in.

"When you move your first $250 in products in Amway, the bonus structure pays you $7.50, even though you did most of the work. Somebody else makes $75.00 in bonuses from the work that you did. You do most of the work, somebody else makes most of the money."

Yes, old comment, but I had to correct a fallacy:

You make note that you would make $7.50, which is patently not true. Most of the starting profit in an Amway business is made on retail sales, which for $250 of normal stuff (For my math I used a combination of vitamins, makeup, cleaning stuff, and ribbon cards)

$83 - Vitamins
$107 - Makeup
$21 - Cleaning
$35 - Ribbon
------
$246

That lands you roughly:
$56.60 straight profit, plus normal bonus you mentioned.

Also, point wise, there would have no be <b>no one</b> making a bonus between them and someone close to the founder of the entire corporation.

Just sayin'

Jay,
Thanks for the thoughts. And yes, I agree, you aren't the standard, other Division I QB's are!
I wish Marc the best in his future endeavors, I hope he gets a shot to keep playing if he desires.
Happy New Year to you, and GO HOOS!

Hi, Jon. Just found this site and am enjoying it immensely. You were a treat to watch at UVa and you are very missed. I think it is fair to say that people should be especially sensitive when it comes to criticism of college athletes, who unlike their pro counterparts are not even being paid (well, outside of the SEC anyway). One point with Marc: He seems like a great young man and one with a bright future in life. And it is not his fault that he ended up starting at QB. However, he has been involved in more exasperating plays than any other athlete I can remember (give or take a Willie Dersch) and it has been very difficult watching him QB the Hoos. You mentioned the 4-game streak when he was brilliant -- couldn't agree more -- but his play down the stretch that year was . . . well, let's just say the stagecoach turned into a pumpkin. He made some great plays this year and some unbelievably boneheaded ones. Could I have done better? Of course not, but I don't think that's the right standard. I promise to refrain from uncalled for personal attacks, but I will admit that as a football player I often thought Mr. Verica was an . . . .

Happy New Year to you and yours and thanks again for all your work for the Hoos.

Best regards,
Jay

Glad you got to it, send Davey and Jeff and Janet my way if you think they might enjoy it as well.

Aimee,
I've felt the same. Fortunately, there are some good places to sit. Unfortunately, at most games, you are in earshot of one or two clowns.
I hope you little guys grow up to be Wahoos!
